We&#8217;ll show you how to fix the &#8220;server IP address could not be found&#8221; error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>When we open a website, for example, <code><a href=\"http:\/\/bing.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bing.com<\/a><\/code> using a web browser, the web browser will check our device&#8217;s DNS settings. The web browser will then ask the DNS server where is <code>bing.com<\/code> pointed to. The DNS will check <code>bing.com<\/code>&#8216;s nameservers, who will report the IP address of the domain name. Do not confuse the DNS server with nameservers &#8211; nameservers only host and cache the translations. A domain name should be pointed to at least two nameservers to properly work. First, let&#8217;s clear the DNS cache on our operating system before we go and do things in our web browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clear-DNS-cache-on-Windows\"><\/span>Clear DNS cache on Windows<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Open the Terminal app as an administrator on your computer. You can do this by finding the terminal in your Start Menu, then right-click it and select &#8220;Run as Administrator&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your Terminal app is open, run the following commands to clear the DNS cache:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">ipconfig \/flushdns\nipconfig \/renew\nnetsh int ip reset\nnetsh winsock reset<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clear-DNS-cache-on-macOS\"><\/span>Clear DNS cache on macOS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To clear the DNS cache on macOS, it also involves opening the Terminal app. Let&#8217;s see the steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Open a new Finder window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on your Applications folder in the left sidebar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the Utilities folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the Terminal app.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that your Terminal app is open, paste in the following text and press Enter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>You will get a prompt to enter your password. It&#8217;s normal for no characters to show up as you type. Type your password in and press Enter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clear-DNS-cache-on-Linux\"><\/span>Clear DNS cache on Linux<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Open your Terminal app. Then type or paste in the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check if you are using Systemd&#8217;s <code>resolved<\/code>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">systemctl is-active systemd-resolved<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>If it returns active, then you can run this next line to clear the DNS cache:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo resolvectl flush-caches<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>If not, you might be using <code>dnsmasq<\/code>. You can restart that service like so, which will clear the cache:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo systemctl restart dnsmasq.service<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter which OS you are using, make sure to restart your web browser after clearing your operating system&#8217;s DNS cache. Try to load the page again. If you&#8217;re still seeing the error, proceed to the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clear-Your-Web-Browsers-DNS-Cache\"><\/span>Clear Your Web Browser&#8217;s DNS Cache<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pick the option you need for the web browser that you&#8217;re using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fix &#8220;Server DNS Address Could Not Be Found&#8221; on Google Chrome<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Open Google Chrome and click on the URL bar to select it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type or copy and paste this into the address bar: <code>chrome:\/\/net-internals\/#dns<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press the <code>Enter<\/code> key on your keyboard to load the page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There should be a bold text that says <strong>Host resolver cache<\/strong>. Click on the <strong>Clear Host Cache<\/strong> button that is next to it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you click it, there is no visual feedback that something happened. You can try to reload the website you visited now.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Once done, you can restart Google Chrome and try to reproduce the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fix &#8220;Server IP Address Could Not Be Found&#8221; on Microsoft Edge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The process is pretty similar to Google Chrome, as they both use the Chromium project as a base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Open Microsoft Edge and click on the URL bar to select it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type or copy and paste this into the address bar: <code>edge:\/\/net-internals\/#dns<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press the <code>Enter<\/code> key on your keyboard to load the page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There should be a bold text that says <strong>Host resolver cache<\/strong>. Click on the <strong>Clear Host Cache<\/strong> button that is next to it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you click it, there is no visual feedback that something happened. You can try to reload the website you visited now.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fix &#8220;Server Not Found&#8221; on Mozilla Firefox<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Open Firefox and click on the URL bar to select it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type or paste in this: <code>about:config<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agree to the prompt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the search box at the top, type or paste in <code>network.dnsCacheExpiration<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;ll see two entries, likely set to 60. Double-click on the 60, and change it to 0, then press Enter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do the same for both entries. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit the entries again and set them back to their original value (60).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fix &#8220;Safari Can&#8217;t Find the Server&#8221; on Safari<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>In the menu bar of macOS, click on Safari, then click on &#8220;Settings&#8230;&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the &#8220;Advanced&#8221; tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the bottom of the Settings window, click on &#8220;Show features for web developers&#8221;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close the Settings window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the menu bar of macOS, click on Develop, then click on &#8220;Empty Caches&#8221;, or &#8220;Empty Caches for All Profiles&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Try to load the website again. If the issue is still there, you can try the following methods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Try-on-a-Separate-Device\"><\/span>Try on a Separate Device<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use your smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc. to try and access the same website. If your phone is also unable to access the same website, then it&#8217;s more than likely that the DNS entry for that website is now gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it does load on a smartphone or other device, then you may have a problem with the DNS settings currently in use on your device with the problem.
